Dear PPSCF Members;

Our PPSCF General meeting this month is on Tuesday October 18, featuring a Roundtable Q&A with PPSCF's own Master Photographers: Tim Kelly, Pete Berg, Debra Libby, Susan Torregrosa, Bruce Wilson, and possibly some others. Please come prepared with your professional photography questions, so you may learn from our Masters. We're also hoping to see at least some of our retired and lifetime members, who always contribute positively with their experience and knowledge.

Also, you should know that our President, Ira Wendorf, has named an ad hoc committee, to formulate a slate of nominees for the November election of PPSCF's 2006 Executive and Board of Directors positions. This committee will present it's slate of nominees to the general membership at this meeting. Nominations from the floor shall also be entertained. You are encouraged to get involved in this process, as it will enrich your PPSCF experience, and make you a contributing member. Your Board of Directors needs your participation and help, with running the organization. Please get involved!

Please RSVP for this meeting no later than this Monday, October 17, if you're not on the standing RSVP list. RSVP's go to PPSCF's Hospitality Chairperson Mike Gibson. Standing RSVP list as it stands: Denise Baggett, Kathleen O’Brien, Edie & Gerald Hardage, Jennifer Fortin, Mike Gibson, Allan Saltman, Chuck Wells, Lara Hart, Jennifer Hoffman, Gary & Heather Ensmenger, Debra Libby, Susan Torregrosa, Dan Clay, Bruce Wilson Jr. The cost to attend is $10 per member (in good standing) and $10 for each guest of members. This is considered a “program fee” and it covers many costs above and beyond the food. PPSCF covers the reasonable expenses of the speakers we host, as well as rent on our meeting space, projector rentals and other expenses that we photographers understand all too well.

We need one or two volunteers to bring their camera rigs, to document this meeting for the Cable Release. Please contact me or Jennifer Hoffman (the editor) to let us know you're going to help out with this. You'll likely be published in PPSCF's award winning newsletter, the Cable Release, with a byline, and much appreciation from our award winning editor.

One more thing - Remember to bring a print to submit for "The Peoples Choice", our monthly informal print competition. 8x10 or smaller meets the size requirement, please enter something! If you win, your door fee for next month's meeting will be waived. "Pay or Play - it's all about the education." If you don't bring a print for People's Choice, you'll be asked to contribute $2 for PPSCF's Harry & Ruth Langdon Scholarship.

Thanks, Mike Gibson, PPSCF Food Guy

January 17, 2006 Photographic Art Theory, by Ben Shuloc http://www.benshulokphotography.com
This class is a quick overview of academic art theory involving a breakdown of the more common and well-known basics within the academic field of art theory. We review art as a form of communication and how the creator and the viewer are able to interpret art as a form of communication from different points of view. Specifically we talk about symbolism of line, shape, color, texture, light, depth, balance, movement and motion, and various themes from art history. This class would prove beneficial to those seeking a firm grasp on improving their scores in competition and would benefit any photographer wanting to improve their understanding of how photographs and images are achieved through a basic understanding of Art Theory.
