ART/TECH RULES

These rules pertain to entries that demonstrate exquisite control of the artists' medium. This control may be exercised in either a subjective and expressive way to create photographic art, or in an objective way to exhibit technical mastery of one or more elements of the artistic process. In the Art/Tech classification, electronic techniques are only allowed in the Open category (A-5). All entries must be mounted permanently on a board, 20 inches x 24 inches maximum, minimum 16 inches x 20 inches. The thickness rule applies (see rule #11). If the Artist chooses to do their work on a black & white image, a one inch strip must be left untouched on the right hand side of the image from the top of the image to the bottom of the image showing that the work print is indeed a black and white image. The guide print must be an UN-retouched photographically identical print, and must be of the same balance and density as the entry. If the Artist chooses to do their work on a color print the one inch strip is not required, however, an UN-retouched photographically identical guide print, being of the same color balance and density as the entry, must be attached to the entry.

***IMPORTANT NOTE***

ALL ART/TECH ENTRIES MUST DEMONSTRATE YOUR PROFICIENCY IN YOUR CRAFT AND THEREFORE ALL NEGATIVE RETOUCHING, PRINT ENHANCEMENTS, HAND COLORING, RESTORATION AND/OR ELECTRONIC IMAGING MUST BE DONE ENTIRELY BY THE ENTRANT. DIRECTING THE WORK IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO ENTER THIS CATEGORY. NOT FOLLOWING THESE RULES TO THE LETTER WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF MERITS AND DEGREES.

A model release and/or photograph release signed by the photographer must be on file with the Artist before the print will be eligible for judging or displaying. In cases where more than one technique has been used, the Competition Manager reserves the right to change the category entered, depending on which technique predominates.

The entrant must designate entries in one of the following categories:

A-1            Negative Retouching: Prints may be in color or B&W. DO NOT SUBMIT NEGATIVES!

A-2            Print Enhancement:       Enhancement may be in any media Ð except Digital (i.e.: dyes, oils, pencils, etc.) Likeness must be kept throughout.

A-3            Hand Coloring:                      Using transparent and/or opaque media. Actual work must be on the entry.                                                                                 Black & white or color acceptable.

A-4            Restoration:                                A copy of the work print is acceptable. A copy of the original is required.

A-5            Open:                                                  Any size photograph up to and including 16X20 may be entered. Any method may be used including electronic imaging.
