Jeffrey Shaw

Have you ever wondered why you became a photographer?

After more than 25 years specializing in on-location portraits for high-end clientele, Jeff began to question how the story of his own life related to becoming a photographer. He realized that as the youngest of three boys there were no photographs or movies that documented his childhood.  On some level this had become the impetus to pursue capturing these unique moments in time. This level of commitment to his clients, building relationships, and unparalleled service created an uncommon level of success as a portrait photographer. In addition to portrait photography, Jeffrey is a trained business and life coach specifically serving the photography community. He continues to bring his vast experience and unique business approach in an effort to benefit other photographers though one-to-one coaching, public speaking, webinars and his own Photography Business MasterMind Group. He is the bring child behind TheBuzzApp- an iPhone marketing app for photographers that uniquely brands and allows clients to review their proofs, share with their friends and even order photos on the go.

Based in Manhattan, Jeff travels extensively to photograph his clients. His portraits have appeared on The Oprah Show, in ‘O’ Magazine, People Magazine, CBS News and hang in a number of prestigious universities. Jeff has created large scale portrait displays of breast cancer survivors in Central Park, NY for the Susan G. Komen Fund and has participated in numerous designer show house events.

Never one to follow a well-worn path, Jeff has built a successful life on the instinct rather than rules and on vision instead of circumstances.

Lets explore how to make albums that WOW clients and that show them the difference between the pros and “do it yourself” photo publishing!  Album design is something we all struggle with as time-crunched professionals, creative artists and people pleasers. The aim of this course is give you a clearer vision and more tools at your design disposal!

Krystal will cover the importance of planning with your clients for an album, “shooting for design.”  What designs “work” and “don’t work?” We will discuss why and what we can do to make them better using the fundamentals of good design.

Putting together a “Design Questionnaire” and “Sign Off” form and how you can use them to head off trouble at the pass and expedite the design process.

Lastly Krystal will cover several popular design software programs, commercial design templates and how to make your own PSD template library to make books quickly while maintaining high standards in quality imagery.

Those brave of heart and thick-skinned are encouraged to send their digital album design spreads to Krystal at krystal@vervestudio.com to be a part of the class discussion and review. (files should be jpgs between, 72 or 96dpi no larger than 12 inches wide). She will have a door prize for one lucky design entrant!

Krystal Radlinski’s Bio:

Krystal got her start with a degree from University of Florida in photojournalism and as a photojournalist for the United States Army. They sent her to Bosnia, Kosovo, Ecuador, and other armpits of the planet. She figured, “Hey, at least you’re less likely to encounter sniper fire during a wedding. Let’s do it!”

Along with her husband Matt, and surly-ass cat “Half-Price,” she has run a Gainesville area home-studio specializing in weddings, portraits and luxurious album designs for the past ten years.

During those 10 years, Krystal has been awarded Florida’s Top Ten Photographers three times, two Fuji Masterpiece Awards, a Kodak Gallery Award, and degreed a Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman by the Professional Photographers of America, PPA Platinum Photographer of The Year and the Accolade of Photographic Mastery Medal by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. Her mom also made her some cookies.

This year at PPA she designed four merit albums, three of which were accepted into the loan collection. You can see her image portfolio at www.vervestudio.com or for the most up-to-date imagery on their blog www.vervestudioblog.com , mentorship available at vervestudiolabs.com

Jill Sanders, CPP, M. Photog., Cr.
Strike A Pose

I don’t know about you, but my seniors come in different shapes and sizes.  What works for the size 0 senior won’t work for the plus size senior. Every senior deserves to look their best.  This is the session they have been excited and nervous about all summer. Hang out with me for a couple of hours as we talk about what works with different body types. We will look at posing, lighting and colors to make our seniors look and feel their best.  We will also look at two products from our studio that are client must haves!

About Jill:

Jill owns and operates a small studio in Bartonville, IL.

She was working for a local school photographer, when she decided to start her own wedding business 29 years ago. Three children later and great challenges behind her, Jill has risen to create an incredibly successful studio and lifestyle for her children and herself. Jill has received Fuji Masterpieces for her wedding work and has been Illinois Senior Photographer of the Year three times.

“Our local softball team recently won their first state tournament. Prior to each game the coach had a particular line she repeated to the girls which very much reflects how I feel about business and life, ‘We have choices. . . choose to win’.”
